Mission Statement

The Shasta Public Libraries provide information, lifelong learning, inspiration and enjoyment to people of all ages through reading and technology. Public libraries in California seek to engage the talents, skills and commitment of volunteers to serve the communities' information and literacy needs. Libraries offer a variety of skilled volunteer opportunities to make a meaningful contribution to library programs, operations, fundraising events and other community engagement functions. Skilled volunteers have opportunities to lead projects, work with teams of staff and volunteers, learn new skills, and have fun.

Description

Volunteers make generous contributions to the Shasta Public Libraries. Without their enthusiasm, hard work, and commitment many library services would not be possible. Your time, talents, and energy are valued at the Shasta Public Libraries.

The new Redding Library building opened on March 3rd, 2007 and has since been providing numerous opportunities for the citizens of Shasta County. The new building, one of the first of its kind in Shasta County, showcases such features as a rooftop garden, numerous solar panels, and thermal energy storage, as well as The Giving Tree, and several other donated pieces of art.

The Redding Library building offers four study rooms, two conference rooms, and one large community meeting room, all of which can be reserved for public use. There is WI-FI available throughout the building free of charge. If you do not have a laptop of your own, you can come in and use our free internet computers. We have microfilm readers, an ADA software enabled computer, a broadband videophone, a large computer classroom in which we give free computer classes, as well as two genealogy computers with volunteer assistance available at select times.

In addition to our ever growing book selection, we own a variety of movies and music CDs, or browse through what the Friends of the Library Bookstore has to offer. Come in and be helped by our friendly staff as nothing would make us happier than to see a new patron become a regular.
