Do you have a passion for writing and storytelling? Do you believe every person has a valuable perspective and experience to share? Do you want to use your creativity to improve San Diego and build your professional portfolio? We want to hear from you.
Jewish Family Service is seeking a Blog & Social Media Intern to help build our agency-wide blog from the ground up. You’ll have a chance to pitch ideas, report and write original stories, network with local experts and guest bloggers, and engage our social media audience in discussions that matter to our San Diego community. You’ll gain hands-on experience in writing, editing, content creation, blog management, social media, project management, and non-profit communications, and you’ll build an impressive professional portfolio for your next job interview.
You’re proud of your ability to write prose that captivates, entertains, and educates. Classmates, coworkers, and friends see you as thoughtful, inquisitive, and hard-working. You have a reporter’s mind-you can quickly learn new topics, find the story in everyday situations, ask questions that encourage interviewees to open up, and write with the reader in mind. You’re eager to contribute your ideas and experience to one of San Diego’s largest, most respected social service agencies.
Under the supervision of the Communications & Digital Content Manager, you will:
Help develop the blog’s editorial calendar and project management system to guide stories from concept to completion
Contribute story ideas to editorial planning meetings
Write and edit stories for Jewish Family Service’s agency-wide blog
Create visual assets, including photos, video, and graphics, to accompany stories
Create social media content to engage our audience and promote blog posts
Monitor blog and social media performance and suggest changes to posts’ format and content
Identify and build relationships with guest bloggers
Moderate blog comments and inquiries
Attend events, conduct interviews, and collaborate with JFS clients, volunteers, donors, and staff to further the agency’s burgeoning story banking initiative

Track record of keeping commitments, meeting deadlines, and communicating openly to keep teams and projects moving forward
