Open Arms prepares, packages, and delivers meals to over 1,000 individuals living with life-threatening illnesses across the Twin Cities.

Each client receives their weekly meal items in a brown grocery bag. With your help, we can make our delivery process fun for everyone; from our delivery drivers to our clients, everybody has a brighter day because of your creativity. It's simple acts of kindness like this that remind clients just how many people in their community care about them!

Bag decorating occurs every 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month, between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. at 2500 Bloomington Avenue South, Minneapolis. We provide the brown bags, you supply the creativity!

This is a great opportunity for kids of all ages to get involved in their community. Bring the whole family and enjoy complimentary refreshments.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact our volunteer team at volunteer@openarmsmn.org.

"I wish to express how all of the children and volunteers are truly appreciated...the work displays the time and effort given by volunteers and others who help to make Open Arms the worthy blessing it is to so many" - A note from a client who received a decorated delivery bag

Mission Statement

It’s a simple notion: people who are sick should not be without food. Yet, every day, our neighbors with life-threatening illnesses find themselves unable to shop or cook -- and, often, without the support network to help. That’s where we come in. Open Arms of Minnesota is a nonprofit organization that prepares and delivers nourishing meals free of charge to critically ill Minnesotans and their loved ones. Our registered dietitians and in-house chefs create delicious, medically tailored menus using fresh and organic ingredients whenever possible. Through the support of a loving community of donors and volunteers, we harvest, cook, and deliver nutritious, made-from-scratch meals directly to our clients. At Open Arms, we believe that food is medicine, and there’s always room for one more at our table.

Description

Open Arms began as a single act of kindness in 1986 - Bill Rowe, our founder, cooking food in his apartment and delivering it to a handful of neighbors living with AIDS who had become too sick to cook for themselves.

Three decades later, our operation has grown into an organization with a state-of-the-art facilities in Minneapolis and St. Paul, which has allowed us to prepare and deliver millions of meals for thousands of clients and their loved ones. We have also since opened our arms wider to include more qualifying illnesses, such as cancer, MS, ALS, ESRD, CHF, COPD, and more.

Volunteers are the heart and soul of Open Arms.

From preparing medically tailored meals in our state-of-the-art kitchen to delivering our nourishing food to our critically ill clients, every aspect of our operations is made possible because of the incredible dedication of our volunteers.

Join us in making a profound difference for our neighbors living with life-threatening illnesses. Whether you’re part of an organization or an individual wanting to make a difference, we have a wide variety of opportunities and will work with you to find the perfect fit for your skills, interests, and availability.

We have locations in both Minneapolis (2500 Bloomington Ave, Minneapolis MN 55404) and St. Paul (380 E Lafayette Frontage Rd, St. Paul MN 55107.)
