Volunteer with Atlas Corps!

Be a Local Ambassador and "first friend" to an International Nonprofit Leader: Help them feel at home in a new city. (Specifically looking for Volunteers located in Chicago/Evanston)

A Local Ambassador is a dedicated "first friend" who is paired with an incoming Atlas Corps Fellow in the same city for the first four months of their Atlas Corps Fellowship. Local Ambassadors serve as on-the-ground support who help our Fellows adjust to their city, navigate through local culture, and meet up with them at least once per month for a fun activity. In the past, Fellows and Local Ambassadors have gone hiking, met for coffee, visited museums, and attended networking events.

Impact: By providing one-on-one support to a Fellow, we hope you will help a Fellow integrate into United States culture more easily, lower the feeling of isolation and stress, and enable the Fellow to contribute and learn with the host organization.

TIME COMMITMENT: A few hours/month for 4 months starting in mid-December 2023. We ask that you email or Skype with the Fellow before they arrive, assist them in adjusting to life in the U.S. and meet with them at least once a month (get coffee, go to a museum, etc.) to check-in and do an activity that you both enjoy! We also hope that you can pick your Fellow up from the airport when they arrive.

Apply now! We are currently recruiting Volunteers for the incoming August Class of Fellows. You can email nada@atlascorps.org to express your interest and then please fill out our Volunteer Interest Survey for next steps and we will be in contact with you soon: https://app.betterimpact.com/PublicOrganization/90a73669-fef8-4ae7-a3c5-05d5f05f3dbd/1

Mission Statement

Mission: To address critical social issues, Atlas Corps develops leaders, strengthens organizations and promotes innovation through an overseas fellowship of skilled professionals.

Description

Atlas Service Corps, Inc. (Atlas Corps), started in 2006, is an international network of nonprofit leaders and organizations that promotes innovation, cooperation, and solutions to address the world's 21st century challenges. Our mission is to address critical social issues by developing leaders, strengthening organizations, and promoting innovation through an overseas fellowship of skilled nonprofit professionals. Profiled as a "best practice" in international exchange by the Brookings Institution and featured in the Washington Post as a model social entrepreneurship program, Atlas Corps engages leaders committed to the nonprofit sector in 12 to 18 month, professional fellowships at organizations to learn best practices, build organizational capacity, and return home to create a network of global changemakers.

Method: Atlas Corps facilitates overseas fellowships for the best of the world's rising leaders. They volunteer at outstanding organizations addressing social issues and are enrolled in an ongoing training program. After 12 or 18 months, they return to their countries to work for at least one year (and usually their entire career) back in the nonprofit sector, sharing new skills, best practices, valuable experiences and a global network of changemakers.
