Halcyon Hospice, serves patients and families in Columbia and the surrounding area. Hospice Volunteers work in conjunction with other members of the hospice team. They are under supervision of the Volunteer Coordinator who is a support, advocate and resource for the volunteer. We view the volunteer's most important role to be that of a loving, supportive presence. Volunteers become an essential part of the patients' families' emotional, social, and physical well-being durning the last stage of life.
As a volunteer you can choose those areas that best fit your needs and schedule.
Patient care, which includes: Companionship, shopping, respite for caregiver, preparing light meals, and light housekeeping when appropriate and agreeable to the volunteer.
Administrative, which includes: Answering phones in our office, filing, typing, and assembling mail.
Bereavement, which includes: Follow up with families after the death through visits, phone calls, or cards. Assist Bereavement Coordinator with grief support group, memorial service, etc. Visit family at the funeral home/attend funeral.
About Halcyon Hospice Columbia

We provide exceptional care and unparalleled services to patients and families who have placed their trust in us.
At LHC Group, we’re dedicated to improving the lives of our patients. Whether you or someone you love is recovering from an illness at home, requires specialized treatment at one of our long-term acute care facilities or is in need of hospice care at the end of life, you can count on our attentive and compassionate professionals to deliver high-quality care.
Care designed to give supportive care to people in the final phase of a terminal illness and focus on comfort and quality of life, rather than cure. The goal is to enable patients to be comfortable and free of pain, so that they live each day as fully as possible. Aggressive methods of pain control may be used. Hospice programs generally are home-based, but they sometimes provide services away from home -- in freestanding facilities, in nursing homes, or within hospitals. The philosophy of hospice is to provide support for the patient's emotional, social, and spiritual needs as well as medical symptoms as part of treating the whole person.
We'll work with your schedule.
