Are you friendly, outgoing, and good with people? If so, the Main Library (125 14 thStreet) could use your help as a volunteer greeter.

Volunteer greeters are the welcoming face of the library - greeting and orienting users to the building, encouraging people to visit regularly, and helping patrons find the services they seek at the library. Greeters also share library resources (maps, flyers, newsletters, schedules, etc.) and assist patrons with using the self-checkout machines. Volunteers are asked to work at least one 2-hour shift per week, and - for most of the time - you will be on your feet, standing at the entrance and roaming the library. A six-month commitment is required. Training will be provided.

To apply, please complete an OPL Volunteer Application and submit to: Sara DuBois, Oakland Main Library, 125 14th St., Oakland 94612. To access this application, click "I Want to Help" above.

Mission Statement

Your Oakland Public Library empowers all people to explore, connect, and grow.

Description

The Oakland Public Library is a part of the City of Oakland and has been in existence since 1878. Our locations currently include 16 branches, a Main Library, 6 Teen Zones, the Second Start Adult Literacy Program, a Tool Lending Library and the African American Museum and Library. We also operate the Books for Wider Horizons program that recruits, trains, and places volunteer story readers in preschool or childcare centers throughout the City of Oakland and offer many other special services for residents of Oakland and California.

We are supported by a lively Friends of the Library group and by the Library Advisory Commission, as well as by local Friends' groups around the city.
