ORGANIZATION: The Lighthouse for the Blind, Inc.

  • 5 people are interested

For 98 years, The Lighthouse for the Blind, Inc. has provided jobs, independence, and empowerment for individuals who are blind, DeafBlind, and blind with other disabilities. In 2008, The Lighthouse expanded and opened Inland Northwest Lighthouse (INL) in Spokane. As a nonprofit social enterprise, our mission is:

To create and enhance opportunities for independence and self-sufficiency for people who are blind, DeafBlind, and blind with other disabilities.

INL is the only organization that specifically focusses on providing meaningful employment opportunities for people who are blind, DeafBlind, or blind with other disabilities in Spokane. With our mission to develop sustainable jobs for our community comes the necessity to provide programs and services to ensure the success of our employees. These programs and services include our Braille Literacy Program, Computer Training Program, and Orientation and Mobility Training.

To ensure our programs and services are sustainable and to help build awareness of Inland Northwest Lighthouse in the community, the Lighthouse established the INL Advisory Council in 2009. The Council helps INL build relationships with organizations and community members along with assisting INL with its fundraising efforts for these unique and vitally important mission-related expenses.

The Council is a dynamic and growing group of passionate volunteers who are at the forefront of INL’s fundraising and community outreach efforts. We are currently recruiting for new Council Members who share a passion and interest in our mission, as well as a desire to be ambassadors for the organization year-round. Key responsibilities of board members include:

? Attend six to eight council meetings annually

? Attend INL functions and events

? Be a committed and passionate community ambassador by promoting INL in the community

? Invite circles of influence to attend events and become donors

? Introduce opportunities to support INL

? Invite community members to tour our facility

? Participate in Council sub-committees

? Be willing to support and assist staff with major asks or giving opportunities

We are looking for enthusiastic community leaders and professionals who would like to be part of a growing and vitally important INL Advisory Council -- individuals who share a passion for making a difference in the lives of those that are blind, DeafBlind, and blind with other disabilities.

If you are interested in joining or learning more about the Inland Northwest Lighthouse Advisory Council, please contact Greg Szabo at gszabo@seattlelh.org or 509-487-0405.
