At Hale Barnard, we provide a Budget Management Program which promotes independent living for people that have limited income and are at risk because they cannot manage their financial affairs. For these individuals who need money management assistance, the program's trained volunteers provide the help they need for daily living. Our program offers two kinds of volunteer services: bill payer and representative payee.

We are currently looking for volunteers to guide clients to regain peace of mind and remain independent.
Volunteers of the Budget Management Program for Seniors take on the role of advocating for vulnerable seniors in the community who need support in paying bills, prioritizing bills, financial advocacy with outside agencies, and caring support, along with other roles. Volunteers make the program possible and provide one-on-one money management service to their clients by visiting them on a monthly basis, usually at their home.

In-home services take place in Boston, Roxbury, Mattapan, East Boston, Roslindale, Dorchester, Brighton, Hyde Park and South Boston (depending on where the client lives).

The program is not a one-person or a one-agency program but a collaborative program.

Please email ahernandez@halebarnard.org if interested.

Mission Statement

Hale Barnard Corporation is a non-profit, non-sectarian organization whose geographical service area is Boston, Massachusetts and is dedicated to assisting its clients in remaining independent, connected to, and involved in their communities via residential and support services. Our clients include middle- and low-income elders, the disabled, and those on public assistance.

The mission is to provide residential and support services of exceptional quality for a diverse older population. Residential programs offer an alternative to institutional care - a homelike place when "home" is no longer possible. Our goal is to enhance all aspects of living in the later years by offering meaningful choices, social, intellectual and spiritual stimulation and by honoring individual worth in the collective environment.

Description

The Budget Management for Seniors relies heavily on volunteers who are willing to go into the community and help vulnerable elders in need. Volunteer money managers play a key role in helping seniors to stay safely in their homes. Volunteers take on the role of advocate for these frail seniors who need support in paying bills and caring support.

The Hale Barnard money management programs consist of two components: the Budget Management Program for Seniors, a volunteer-run service, which assists low-income elders in managing their money and paying bills on time; and the Bill Payer Program, an organizational representative payee program that focuses on disabled adults in need of assistance with money management and who are either homeless or are at high risk of becoming homeless.

Hale House, a residential care facility located in Boston's Back Bay neighborhood, is a 56-bed facility providing housing and support services for elderly and disabled residents regardless of their income and means. Residents of Hale House enjoy a variety of services, including all meals, 24-hour care, and a full schedule of activities. Residents range in age from 50 to 95 years, more than half qualify as low-income, and 20% are previously homeless or at risk of homelessness. Hale House affords residents more independence than a nursing home facility, yet it is not assisted living, as our residents require some monitoring of medications and health needs by nursing staff. This unique position in the spectrum of elder care services ensures that Hale House residents enjoy the comfort of knowing someone is always there if they need help, while maintaining their independence in a secure environment.
