The Foundation for Letters promotes improved college access through engagement with writing by providing urban schools with a range of literary-focused academic and enrichment programs. We also provide schools with assistance in the development of their own external support organizations, which build networks of donors, volunteers and partners that support literacy-focused education at their schools.

The Foundation's volunteer Board members help carry out this mission. As a small, young non-profit, we are looking for an accountant with non-profit experience that has the time and experience to familiarize him/herself with our organization and financial transactions enough to help us file form 990s for 2014-2015 and 2015-2016.

Alternatively, we are also looking for someone to help us with migrating our accounting from Excel over to Quickbooks.

We would love it if you were ultimately interested in the organization as a whole - volunteering with kids or serving on our Board of Directors, specifically - but our priority right now is interest in helping with accounting.

Thank you!

Description

OUR FOCUS

Promoting Writing Engagement

Environments that emphasize the value of the written word help provide students with a path to improved literacy. FFL fosters these environments by supporting a variety of writing programs, ranging from poetry to fiction, essays, journalism as well as spoken word and other genres.

Increasing College Readiness

Increased fluency with the word bears a close connection to success in high school, college, and beyond. FFL supports programs that introduce students at an early age to the critical importance of a college education. These programs help provide a path to attending and succeeding in college, and help better position urban students for educational and professional success.

Improving Global Citizenship

Students in underserved urban neighborhoods who are consistently exposed to the world beyond their present circumstances develop a thirst for further education and intellectual engagement that makes pursuing a college education attractive. FFL supports programs that use engagement with writing as a tool for improved global understanding. These programs are also designed to give the students a sense of belonging in today’s global community.
