ORGANIZATION: American Red Cross - Cascades Region

PLACEMENT PURPOSE
The Disaster Mental Health (DMH) Representative helps adults and children cope with the emotional and environmental impact following a disaster by assessing clients’ needs, helping them adjust to shelter living and assisting them with their recovery efforts.

OPEN TIME DAYS

Occasional on-call service is expected of Health Services responders. Evening and weekend availability desirable during disaster response.

REQUIRED TRAINING
  • Region/Chapter Volunteer Orientation
  • Disaster Services: An Overview (modules one and two)
  • Foundations of Disaster Mental Health (classroom
  • Psychological First Aid (classroom)

    Within the first year of service:
  • Basic Food Safety (third partonline)
  • Shelter Operations and Shelter Simulations (classroom)
  • American Red Cross Adult First Aid/CPR/AED
  • FEMA IS 100 (Incident Command System)
  • Logistics Overview and Simulations (classroom)
