The Animals & Society Institute is seeking an intern to assist with special projects and day to day operations for our nonprofit organization. The intern will report directly to the Managing Director, and may also work with ASI staff and contractors. This internship is an excellent opportunity for students or those who wish to start a career in the nonprofit sector as it is designed to teach nonprofit management basics.

Start: Currently recruiting for Fall 2019 (Sept-Dec)
We will be interviewing candidates at our Ann Arbor Office for Fall between 3/01 and 5/16

Length: Minimum of one semester

Location: ASI main office in Ann Arbor, Michigan

Hours: Flexible; minimum of 10 per week (during regular business hours)

Wage: Unpaid

Duties and Responsibilities

Work closely with Managing Director on projects that may include:

  • Program development

  • SalesForce database management

  • Creation of content social media

  • Working with Constant Contact email letter list

  • Day to day operations

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office

  • Familiarity with Google Suites (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc.)

  • interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills

What you will get out of the Internship
  • Valuable experience in non-profit management

  • Experience with writing e-newsletters using Constant Contact

  • Experience with processing donations and using SalesForce

  • The skills to seek and hold down an administrative or management job in the non-profit sector

  • An opportunity to "test drive" a non-profit occupation

Description

The Animals and Society Institute's primary focus is on the academic field of Human-Animal Studies, a multidisciplinary academic field devoted to understanding more about humankind's complex relationship with animals. The ASI edits two academic journals and a book series devoted to the subject; sponsors a fellowship; and works with academics and institutions nationwide to develop courses, minors programs and more.

Our newest program, Animals & Public Policy, is dedicated to improving the lives of animals by advancing policy research and developing recommendations that lead to safer, more compassionate communities for all. ASI and its partners conduct research and create resources according to the Research Priorities identified annually by ASI that contribute to the formulation of strategies and policies to ensure compassionate policy for animals.
