Volunteer museum docents for Jamestown Settlement and Yorktown Victory Center are currently needed for the following shifts - 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. or 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. or 1 p.m. - 5 p.m., 7 days/week.
Docents are responsible for:
- Leading outdoor orientation tours
- Supporting special exhibits by leading related interactive activities
- Assisting visitors as they tour the regular galleries, answering questions, and engaging visitors in interactive experiences using the museum gallery exhibits.
The Foundation offers a comprehensive staff training program that includes lectures, tours, demonstrations, and skills training that amply equip volunteer docents for any role they choose. In return for donating their time, the Foundation's core volunteers receive complementary admission to Jamestown Settlement and the Yorktown Victory Center for themselves and their family; 20% discount at the Foundation's museum gift shops; 50% discount at the Jamestown Settlement Cafe, and other benefits. Description
The Foundation, accredited by the American Association of Museums, is an educational institution of the Commonwealth of Virginia and administers two living-history museums. Jamestown Settlement interprets the cultures of 17th-century colonial Jamestown, America's first permanent English settlement and the Powhatan Indians. The American Reluntion Mesuem at Yorktown interprets the impact of the American Revolution on the people of America and the development of the new nation.
