Volunteer costumed interpreters are currently needed seven days a week at Jamestown Settlement or the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown for the following shifts - 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. or 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. or 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.
The costumed interpreter is responsible for:
-Greeting, orienting, and assisting visitors with information on scheduled demonstrations, tours, and on-going activities within the site
-Presenting and/or assisting with hands-on activities appropriate to site as trained
-Maintain tools, equipment, reproduction objects and costume as instructed
-Work in costume or professional dress as appropriate to assigned duties
-Other duties as assigned
The Foundation offers a comprehensive staff training program that includes lectures, tours, demonstrations, and skills training that amply equip volunteers for any role they choose. In return for donating their time, the Foundation's core volunteers receive complementary admission to Jamestown Settlement and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown for themselves and their family; 20% discount at the Foundation's museum gift shops; 50% discount at the Jamestown Settlement Cafe, and other benefits. The Foundation, accredited by the American Association of Museums, is an educational institution of the Commonwealth of Virginia and administers two living-history museums. Jamestown Settlement interprets the cultures of 17th-century colonial Jamestown, America's first permanent English settlement and the Powhatan Indians. The American Reluntion Mesuem at Yorktown interprets the impact of the American Revolution on the people of America and the development of the new nation.
