BUILD Mentor

Looking for amazing Bay Area volunteer opportunities? BUILD is an innovative, college preparatory program, whose mission is to use entrepreneurship to excite and propel disengaged, low-income high school students to college and career success.

VOLUNTEER AS A BUILD MENTOR! BUILD ignites the potential of youth from under-resourced communities through experiential learning. Support high school students in launching their very own businesses while connecting with passionate, like-minded Bay Area professionals. Mentoring is a great way to share your professional background with students while inspiring them to stay on the path to college success. Mentors are assigned to student teams and coach students through starting and launching their own businesses.

Here are some details on what a mentoring commitment looks like:

  • Location: Oakland and/or Redwood City
  • Time commitment: 2 hours (5:30-7:30pm), once a week (M-Th)
  • Session runs: Now - May 2017 (with winter and spring breaks)
  • 2 mentors assigned per team (1:4 mentor to student ratio)
  • Sites are BART and car accessible

Description

BUILD is supporting six LAUSD schools with the delivery of our business and entrepreneurship curriculum. Throughout the school year students will learn design thinking, form business teams, and develop an advanced prototype of a product to sell! BUILD recruiting volunteer business team mentors to support students as they form their business teams. Business team mentors are professional mentors who support and motivate a youth business team, provide recommendations for a company's vision, growth, and goals for the year, and build strong relationships with students. The volunteer commitment entails attending attend 10 class sessions throughout the second semester of the school year, 2 in person, 8 virtually.
