The Free Arts Mentoring Program is a 12-week arts-based mentoring program that provides youth ages 6-19 with regular opportunities to express themselves creatively and engage with positive adult role models. Led by Program Facilitators, teams of volunteer mentors use theme-based curricula to guide groups of youth through creating and discussing visual art projects - a process that serves as a catalyst to help youth strengthen critical communication and social skills, and build positive relationships with peers and adults.
Responsibilities include:
- Coordinating volunteer communications (event sign-ups, occasional mailings, etc);
- Preparing for Arts Mentoring Program Trainings, Curriculum Reviews and Free Arts Days for participating volunteer mentors;
- Developing and preparing curriculum materials;
- Creating sample art projects;
- Processing volunteer enrollment and evaluation forms; and
- General administrative tasks and errands, as needed.
Program Interns are also expected to volunteer with one or more Arts Mentoring groups, as Free Arts believes the combination of working "in the field" in our programs and "behind the scenes" at our offices creates the highest quality internship we can offer. Program Interns receive trainings on Free Arts database - eTapestry and are also strongly encouraged to identify a specific area in which they would like to gain further experience (e.g., curriculum development, evaluation, etc).
Qualifications:
Free Arts accepts college, graduate, and non-student applicants over the age of 18. Students pursuing Studio Art, Art Education, Arts Administration, Art Therapy (although we cannot provide supervision to meet practicum requirements), Social Work, Non-profit Management, Youth Development and other related fields are encouraged to apply. All candidates should possess strong organizational and communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, a team spirit and a willingness to learn

Description
Free Arts volunteers are community members, students, professionals, retirees, artists, educators and activists from diverse backgrounds. Our volunteers help us reach over 27,000 underserved kids each year through four cornerstone programs: The Free Arts Mentoring Program, Free Arts for Families Program, Free Arts Days, and The Free Arts for Children's Court. Programs take place in group homes, residential care facilities, domestic violence shelters, low-income housing communities, and family resource centers throughout greater Los Angeles. We have a variety of ways for volunteers to get involved, from single day commitments to regular, weekly mentoring opportunities.
