Minds Matter DC students work with our volunteer instructors from 10-12 on Saturdays during the school year in order to build their test prep skills. Our instructors work with students as a group and one-on-one to strengthen their Math, Critical Reading, and Grammar skills in preparation for the SAT. Our instructors are a key part of our mission in allowing each student to fulfill his or her potential and make the leap to college.
Instructor Expectations:
- A college graduate
- Act as a positive influence and a role model for students
- Be a strong communicator to keep students, peers, and chapter leadership informed
- Attend 80% of the sessions from September through May
- Time commitment: 3-4hrs/weekInstructor Expectations:
More than 1,300 volunteers nationwide dedicate their time help to Minds Matter achieve its mission each year. Minds Matter of Washington, DC is a 100% volunteer based organization. Our organization consists of professionals from diverse career backgrounds in the DMV area. The Minds Matter volunteer experience offers dedicated individuals both the opportunity to meet a group of like-minded adults as well as the opportunity to hold leadership posts and carry the organization to new levels each year.

For more than 22 years, Minds Matter National has been making competitive college admission a reality for underserved students nationwide. Minds Matter transforms the lives of highly-motivated, low-income students by providing the individualized mentoring, standardized test preparation, and writing and critical thinking instruction that has been proven necessary to achieve college success.
Description
Minds Matter serves nearly 650 motivated students in cities nationwide and pairs them with volunteers committed to helping them achieve their academic and personal goals. The program provides:
- Academic mentoring
- SAT/ACT test prep
- Writing and critical thinking instruction
- Access to prestigious summer enrichment programs
- Guidance through the college application and financial aid processes
