We are looking for one or more volunteers to help maintain the vegetable gardens in any of our 5 preschool playgrounds in Oceanside and Escondido. The preschool gardens are an integral part of our garden program as this is where the children get the opportunity to fully experience seed to table. These children become immersed in this outdoor classroom and cultivate a love for fresh fruits and vegetables.
Minimum tasks: Your main duty would be to visit the garden weekly to help maintain it. This includes weeding, watering, pruning, and helping to maintain the compost.
Other potential tasks: If you would like to be more involved, there are opportunities to work with the children to plant seeds, transplant seedlings, and share your joy for gardening. There is no limit to how amazing you can make the garden and the garden experience for the kids!
Details: Our child development centers are open from 8am-5pm, so you would need to volunteer during that time. You must be self-motivated and willing to work by yourself. We will offer training and guidance. Experience gardening, environmental education, and working with children is a plus but certainly not required. Our preschool gardens are a learning environment for everyone!
