The U14 and U16 teams at Soccer Without Borders compete in a seasonal soccer league in Middlesex County. These games in the fall and spring provide youth a wonderful opportunity to further develop skills learned at practice and grow as a team. The league participation also reinforces the positive program culture of SWB as youth who attend consistently and follow the rules (Try Everything, Have Fun, Be Respectful) are chosen to participate on the team.
Games are on Saturdays. Half of the games will be played at home in East Boston, and the other half away in different towns of Middlesex County. Youth and their families lack access to transportation to these games, so volunteers are needed to help with transport! As a volunteer driver you will meet the team and coaching group in East Boston, meet the kids and coach you are driving, travel to the game, watch and help coach (if you're interested) during the game, and then return to East Boston afterwards.
All drivers will undergo a background check, including driving history before beginning to volunteer.

Mission Statement
Soccer Without Borders uses soccer as a vehicle for positive change, providing newcomer refugee, immigrant and asylee youth a toolkit to overcome obstacles to growth, inclusion and personal success.
Description
Soccer Without Borders (SWB) Boston is a free, year-round youth development program that uses soccer as vehicle for positive change in the lives of newcomer refugee, immigrant and asylee youth in East Boston. Youth and families hail from 10+ countries in Latin America and Northern Africa, now working to adapt to new life in the United States. The isolation of newcomer families leaves them disproportionately at risk for childhood obesity, academic failure, gang involvement and other unhealthy behaviors. For newcomer youth, the soccer field is a familiar, welcoming space; the SWB program leverages this universal language and the interpersonal safety net of a team to create pathways to success. Our program is designed to enable participants to advance academically, grow personally, make healthy lifestyle choices, build social capital, and develop language skills.
