The CELC is a nonprofit organization committed to providing educational opportunities and childcare services to children, primarily from lower income families, in the Columbus area. Founded in 1887, the organization has over 125 years of history, making it the oldest early childhood education agency in Franklin County. We are looking for volunteers to fulfill a variety of roles who are eager to support the CELC’s mission of providing excellent early childhood education and childcare.

Position Responsibilities will be discussed during a screening interview, but may include:

  • Reading to a child or to a group of children

  • Teaching a short lesson in a small group

  • Creating an art project or craft

  • Teaching/playing a game or sport

  • Assisting teachers prepare for lessons and activities

  • Gardening and yard work

  • Preparing for large events

  • Answering telephone calls and distributing mail

  • Greeting children and their families during morning drop off and afternoon pick up

  • Creating bulletin boards, marketing materials, and information packets

  • Managing family mailboxes

  • Creating bulletin boards and other decorations for the building

  • Excels at planning, organizing, and prioritizing

  • Demonstrates solid written and verbal communication skills

  • Pleasant manner, patient, and dependable

  • Interest and enthusiasm for working in an early childcare setting and/or in the nonprofit sector

Upon hire must complete:
  • BCII and FBI background check.

  • Medical statement and nonconcivtion statement
