ORGANIZATION: Elk Grove Historical Museum

PIONEER DAY 2014

Pioneer Day at the Elk Grove Historical Museum is a family-friendly event with activities that include a petting zoo, music, games, crafts, historical demonstrations, scarecrow making and more! This event is FREE to the public, except the elk-styled hobby horse activity ($5).

Volunteers can help out in a variety of ways:

  1. Set-up, 10:30am-12:15pm (5-6 volunteers needed)
  2. Kids' craft, 12:45-5:00pm (2 volunteers)
  3. Scarecrow workshop, 12:45-5:00pm (10 volunteers)
  4. Games, 12:45-5:00pm (2 volunteers)
  5. Clean-up, 5:00-6:00pm (5-6 volunteers needed)

Volunteers can choose one or multiple shifts. A simple lunch will be provided for those who assist from set-up to clean-up.

First-time volunteers will also be required to fill out a waiver and a phone interview. Long-term volunteers may also be required to pass a background check.

Mission Statement

The Elk Grove Historical Museum actively partners with the community to collect and preserve local history that is disseminated through relevant exhibits and education programs.

Description

The Elk Grove Historical Museum provides a look at pioneer living from the mid 19th to early 20th century. The Museum specializes in the history of the Elk Grove and its development over time. Open year round, the Museum offers tours, educational programs, exhibits, and assistance with research on Elk Grove Village and the surrounding area. Come experience pioneer life with crafts, games, exhibits and demonstrations!

Our Campus includes:

  • Mid-1800s farmhouse complete with historic furnishings
  • 1880's Deike family barn with nineteenth century farm equipment and tools.
  • Orientation Center - t hroughout the year you can view rotating exhibits . Modeled after a one-room schoolhouse, it is also used for programming and houses the museum office.
  • Outbuildings - chicken coop / garden / privy - These outbuildings date to the early twentieth century and introduce visitors to structures used for animals and facilities used for daily life.
