PLACEMENT PURPOSE
Support the Red Cross & Disaster Services by providing professional mental health services to disaster clients, their families and other Red Cross volunteers at disaster shelters, service delivery sites, relief operations headquarters and over the phone. Services includes psychological triage, crisis intervention, assessment, and behavioral health consultation.
OPEN TIME DAYS
1-2 hours (average) shifts per disaster response.
Number of responses vary per month.
REQUIRED TRAINING
Training approximately 10 total hours - • Orientation to the American Red Cross • Disaster Cycle Services: An Overview (required)
• Disaster Mental Health: Introduction (required)
• Disaster Mental Health: Fundamentals (required)
• Psychological First Aid (required)
• Direct Client Assistance Fundamentals (required)
• Additional courses recommended but not required.
One-on-one mentoring and support from current Disaster Mental Health Services Counselors.
