We are volunteers, from all nations and backgrounds, working together from the ground up to explore healthy and practical alternative solutions to challenges faced by rural communities. Our camp is based in the small village of Takure in rural Nepal. A year and a half ago the earthquakes destroyed 98.6% of the homes in the village. Here we are working on introducing sustainable, long-term rebuilding solutions. We believe that humanity must unite to meet global challenges with sustainable solutions .
Our volunteers and Nepali staff work together to produce Compressed Stabilised Earth Bricks (CSEBs). Last year we built The Siddhartha Primary School with our bricks and this year we are producing thousands of bricks for homes. CSEBs have many benefits: they are made manually with local materials, incredibly durable, earthquake resistant, and have a high thermal capacity.
But there are many opportunities to serve to community beyond making bricks. Each day our volunteers also have the option to join our Agriculture or Education team in their exciting work.
We formed our Education Program because building a safe school is just as important to us as what happens in it afterwards. We visit the two local schools to provide an interactive and hands-on learning environment for the Nepali school children. As time goes on, we also intend to continue acting as a resource to the local teachers. Sharing our knowledge and lending our hands so that our impact may extend our time in Takure.
Using an integrative design approach, our Agriculture Team is focused on permaculture, agro-forestry, and water management on a village level. The life of every family is reliant on the vegetable garden, the animal shed, and the flow of water off the roof. We hope to support design-thinking in home reconstruction through training, example designs and forestry projects.
