Teaching English to School Children

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Cultural Canvas Thailand

Cultural Canvas Thailand is seeking volunteers willing to assist teachers, and in some classes facilitate lessons, in delivering English language instruction in local and provincial / rural elementary schools. Children are generally aged between 9 and 12 years of age and are based at three different schools across Chiang Mai Province, including the Wat Prachakasem Hill Tribe School.

Wat Prachakasem Hill Tribe School is nestled among the hills aid jungle in Hang Dong district, approximately 45 minutes drive from Chiang Mai city. The majority of the school’s students and teachers belong to the H’Mong hilltribe and live in nearby villages within walking distance to the school. The school not only teaches its students the standard Thai curriculum, but also the culture and traditions of the H’Mong hilltribe people, creating a strong sense of community and local pride within the school.

As English teaching assistants, volunteers will be required to research various English language instruction exercises and then develop activities appropriate to the age group and culture of the students in each school / classroom. This includes writing lesson plans, preparing materials, practicing the activities and then delivering the lesson. Volunteers may be required to occasionally deliver lessons without the supervision of another teacher.

Volunteers will not only perform all of the above duties and any further tasks required of them by their corresponding school and classroom teacher, but they will also help to promote the program by writing regular posts for the Cultural Canvas Thailand official blog and website.
