One hour a week, that is all it takes to make a difference to someone in your community.

At Heartland Hospice the opportunities for volunteers to make a difference are as varied and individual as the volunteers themselves. There are many ways to support hospice and give that extra special touch to our patients and families.

The following are some of the many roles a volunteer can perform:

Visit a patient or relieve a family member

Reading scripture to the patient

Companionship for the patient

Reading aloud to the patient

Listening to music together

Holding a patient's hand

Sharing a quiet moment together

After completing required hospice volunteer training and background checks, volunteers are given information of potential patients and asked if they feel that the patient is one that they would want to be assigned. Patient assignments are always within a reasonable distance from the location that you have chosen to serve. Classes include philosophy of hospice, communication skills, patient care, patient and volunteer rights and other topics. We ask for a commitment of only 1 hour per week.

Please join us in helping others.

About Heartland Hospice

Location:

770 Independence Dr, Union, MO 63084, US

Mission Statement

At Heartland Hospice, formerly ProMedica Hospice, we understand the importance of time shared with family and friends, especially when facing the challenges of a life-limiting illness. Our clinicians are dedicated to offering the compassionate physical, spiritual and emotional care people need to make the most of these moments.

Description

Heartland Hospice has an ongoing need for Volunteers to visit with our patients diagnosed with life-limiting conditions whom have elected hospice care.

Hospice is a comprehensive, medically-directed, team-oriented program of care that focuses on symptom management, comfort, and providing support that meets physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs of patients and their families. Hospice volunteers provide extra love and care to patients and their families. For example, a hospice volunteer may provide support by staying with the patient so family members can take a break, or they can run an errand for the patient, read scripture, play or sing a patient’s favorite song, hold the patient’s hand, and provide companionship to help reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness.

Heartland Hospice Volunteers truly make a difference in the lives of others!
