Are you interested in history, particularly Chicago history and/or Japanese American history? Do you have interest or experience in working with archival materials? Come volunteer with JASC's Legacy Center museum and help us digitize our archival materials! We are looking for volunteers to help us digitize historic photographs and upload them into our digital archives to help preserve and make them available to scholars and researchers all over the world.
Legacy Center volunteers will be scanning photos from the collections that document the Japanese American experience from the early 1900s to present. Most of these collections have a connection to local history, as many Japanese Americans moved to Chicago after internment. Types of photos include rare photos from interment camps, family portraits and snapshots, photos from Japanese American organizations and events, and military service. All images currently in the archives were uploaded by JASC Legacy Center volunteers - check them our for yourself on our website!
Volunteers with the Legacy Center must be at least 16 years old, and must be comfortable using computers and scanners. Experience working in Photoshop is preferred, but not required. Some training will be provided on site. Hours are flexible, but must take place sometime between the hours of 9-5 Monday through Friday (JASC office hours). If you're interested in this position please contact Shalini Sivaram |ssivaram@jasc-chicago.org

Founded on August 30, 1946, the Japanese American Service Committee of Chicago originally served the needs of the Issei and Nisei (Japanese immigrants and their American-born children) who left World War II internment camps to resettle in Chicago and start new lives. As the needs of the community have changed over the years, so, too, have the programs and services provided by the JASC.
