About Bergen Museum of Art and Science

Location:

Teaneck Road, Teaneck, NJ 07666, US

Mission Statement

Promote the region's quality of life through the arts and science and pomote life long learning. Founded in 1956.

The Bergen Museum of Art & Science (BMAS) trustees strive to promote community partnerships. The museum fosters the power of arts and culture. It improves and recharges a community while attracting and retaining business and a professional workforce. Additionally it serves as an economic generator.

The museum's collection holds a marvel, a 200 ft X 60 ft enamel on metal mural created by world renounced artist Stfan Kanpp. Its amazing mural’s beauty and size makes for a dazzlingly public display. It once hung on Alexanders building on route 4 Paramus. Admired by millions, this NJ icon is available for installation.

"In addition to its role in stimulating creativity, a museum can serve as a stimulus for local economic activity because as an attraction it draws individuals to a community... Museums also attract creative individuals to a community, and these individuals can have a profound economic impact.

Such individuals can provide a boost to regional tourism or make a lasting impact by relocating to the community more permanently." (Economic Impact Analysis of Cultural Institutions M. Halsey)

The BMAS continues to enrich the community’s cultural capital by engaging significant parts of society in its ongoing exhibits, outreach and educational programs. These hold intrinsic value and with its programs enrich community cultural capital regardless of social status.

The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) recognizes the importance of regional culture and regional art. Their vision is "a democratic society where communities and individuals thrive with broad public access to knowledge, cultural heritage, lifelong learning."

The Bergen Museum of Art and Science developed its long range plan to provide for a self sufficient institution. This includes a public private partnership to provide art space, science exposition and to bring life long learning in the arts, math and sciences to the community.
