Help us to empower immigrants by improving their English skills and gain proficiency with technology, giving them voice to tell their stories and advocate for themselves, their families, and their communities.

Volunteers needed for English Innovations classes at the following times and locations:

-T/W/TH 930AM-12PM, Northeastern Crossing, 1178 Tremont St, conveniently located at Northeastern University next to Ruggles station
-M/W/FR 5:30-8:30PM at Maverick Landing Community Services, 31 Liverpool St, East Boston MA 02128

FREE TRAINING PROVIDED! WED., SEPT. 14 FROM 5;30-8:30PM

Volunteers will support the instruction of these classes, in addition to running smaller conversation groups of students to practice their English skills. Students will continue their learning outside the classroom by using tablets and the game-based learning tool Xenos.

Volunteers will have the chance to form relationships with students and play a key role in their paths to economic self-sufficiency and better lives in the U.S.

Training is provided at no cost and will be offered on as-needed basis.

English for New Bostonians is running the English Innovations classes in partnership with MIRA Coalition at the local level, and NPNA, OneAmerica, and the Learning Games Network at the national level. The goal of these classes is to expand educational opportunities for immigrant youth who are potential beneficiaries of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy. This class is made possible through support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Description

English for New Bostonians (ENB) is a public-private-community collaboration addressing the urgent need for increased English language learning opportunities for adult immigrants in Boston. Comprised of the City of Boston, foundations, corporations, non-profits, and community organizations, ENB works to support high-quality, accessible ESOL programs; to expand Boston’s capacity to serve English language learners; to test new strategies to reach learners at home, in the community, and at work; to encourage new investment by diverse stakeholders; to heighten awareness about the importance of adult English language learning; and to support the development of a coordinated ESOL system in Boston.
