BEST BUDDIES IS SEEKING COMMUNITY LEADERS & GO-GETTERS FOR THE 2018 CHAMPION OF THE YEAR COMPETITION:
Champion of the Year
In the fall of 2018, dynamic community leaders will engage in an eight week fundraising competition to earn Best Buddies Indiana’s "Champion of the Year" title, by raising funds for Best Buddies signature programs helping people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The 2018 campaign begins with an exciting Kick-Off Party on September 13, and the fundraising competition will culminate at the Best Buddies Indiana Annual Gala on November 10.
The Nominees
The ideal nominees are business and community leaders who are ambitious, socially active, philanthropic, well-networked, and passionate about making a difference in the lives of people with IDD. Nominees receive positive recognition in their community and the Indianapolis market, have their bios profiled on the Champion of the Year website and related social media, and have the opportunity to work with a Buddy - a person with IDD, who will serve as their campaign manager. Candidates are encouraged to assemble a team to help with their efforts during the 8 week campaign, and are supported by BBIN Staff.
The Reason
People with IDD have been given many legal rights, but still feel socially isolated. Furthermore, equal opportunities in the workplace are not available to individuals with IDD.
Champion of the Year nominees are a part of the solution to this problem. This campaign helps to boost the visibility of Best Buddies Indiana, a 501c3 nonprofit organization, and raises funds to enhance the organization’s mission. Proceeds will help match individuals with IDD together with individuals without IDD into friendships that can last a lifetime, and will also promote the placement of adults with IDD into meaningful, inclusive employment opportunities in the Indianapolis area.
Founded in 1989 by Anthony Kennedy Shriver, Best Buddies is a vibrant, international philanthropic organization. Best Buddies programs will positively impact more than 700,000 individuals this year.
The Competition
Each Champion candidate works with their campaign manager and Best Buddies Indiana staff to plan an eight-week long campaign to raise funds and awareness for Best Buddies in any and as many ways as they choose from September 13th until November 10th. Effective fundraising techniques include letter-writing, special events, restaurant and store give-backs, silent & live auction opportunities, and sponsorships. Every dollar raised, as well as weekly incentive awards that candidates can win, counts toward the candidate's campaign total, which is kept confidential. Fundraising continues into the Best Buddies Annual Gala, when the final tally will be taken, and the 2018 Champion of the Year will be announced! The top three competitors receive prizes for their participation, and the Champion of the Year and their campaign manager will be featured on a billboard or transit ad in the Indianapolis area for several weeks.
How much of the donations collected will help people with IDD?
100%. Corporate sponsors underwrite the costs of the kick-off reception and awards ceremony. ALL money raised by nominees will benefit the Best Buddies mission in Indiana 100%.
How can I help?
Recommend yourself or someone who you feel would be an excellent nominee, financially support a nominee’s campaign, and volunteer to assist nominees with their events and other fundraising efforts. Corporate sponsorship opportunities are also available, including sponsoring a candidate.
Additional information is available upon request, and BBIN Staff is happy to meet with interested parties to answer questions and discuss.
