At The Crucible, we're rearing and ready to go for the 2022 Youth Summer Camps! We are looking for lots of youth-friendly volunteers to support our faculty and staff during the 6 weeks of camp. Volunteers will mostly be stationed in the classrooms as helpers to support students' fun learning experience. Volunteers have the unique opportunity to earn mega class credits for free classes at The Crucible!
In The Crucible’s Youth Summer Camps, students get hands-on learning STEM concepts through the industrial arts, experimenting with different media and techniques, and connecting with creative mentors and new friends. There are six weeks of week-long camps, running from June 20-August 5, 2022, at The Crucible's warehouse in West Oakland.
We are looking for volunteers to help out in our classrooms, supporting the youth. For classroom volunteer positions, volunteers with previous experience in the field will be given priority consideration, but prior experience isn't necessary. It would be great if volunteers could commit to a full week, but we're flexible!
If you have experience in any of the following fields and daytime availability, that's a plus!: woodworking, TIG welding, foundry, glass fusing, ceramics, paper sculpture, electronics and circuits, jewelry and metalsmithing, or bike mechanics.
We are holding a virtual volunteer orientation for our Youth Summer Camps 2022 on Thursday, June 16 from 6-7pm.

Benefits of Volunteering with Camp
As a volunteer with our Youth Summer Camps, you can turn your contributed hours into class credits. For every 20-hour week of volunteer work completed and logged, you can register for two 5-week classes or one 10-week class (credits good for 2 years). If you help out for both shifts for the full week, you receive double the credit! This is a unique opportunity to earn mega class credits!
All Crucible youth classes have been modified with new health and safety policies in place, like mandatory masks and vaccination requirements for all students, staff, faculty, and volunteers 12 years old or older.
