California Forest Center at the State Fair
Volunteer in the cool urban forest setting at the State Fair

The California Forest Center is a one-acre urban forest in CalExpo designed to teach Californians about the importance of maintaining healthy forests.

The Forest Foundation is looking for volunteers to engage the public about the importance of forest management and how healthy forests play a role in the welfare of all Californians. Typical duties include passing out tree seedlings, answering questions about exhibits and forests, and interacting with guests at activity stations.

As a volunteer, we provide you with free admission into the fair, a parking pass, t-shirt, and snacks and soft drinks during your shift. This is a great opportunity to network with other resource professionals and to educate the public about the multiple benefits of sustainable forest management in California. You don’t need to be an expert -- just a friendly face who can assist guests.

Shifts available from July 13-29 at the following times:

Monday - Thursday EARLY 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. LATE 3:15 to 7:15 p.m.

Friday - Sunday EARLY 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. LATE 2:45 to 7:15 p.m.

Spots are available on all shifts except for July 19th, that day is full. You can view the available shifts here: http://signup.com/go/bNHRupy

Please let us know if you can assist The Foundation by volunteering. You will play an important role in educating Californian’s about the importance of healthy forests.

Mission Statement

To foster public understanding of forest ecosystems in California by providing balaced, science-based information on environmental, economic, and societal uses of forest resources for present and succeeding generations.

Description

The Forest Foundation is a non-profit organization that strives to foster an understanding of the importance of forests and how they affect California’s environmental and economic health. California's forests have long been valued for their natural resources, wildlife, and recreation. About 75% of California's drinking water originates in forested watersheds, we rely on wood products from lumber to medicines, on a daily basis, and many industries rely on the forest for the recreational activities it naturally provides. Yet a majority of Californians have become disconnected from this valuable land. The Forest Foundation educates the present and next generation about forest ecosystems in California by providing free balanced, science-based programs and curriculum to K - 12 grade students throughout the state. We help bring the forests to the classroom. We have reached tens of thousands of students with our fee education programs and curriculum materials for K-12 classrooms and sponsor numerous programs about caring for forests. By sharing knowledge, we aim to protect water and air quality and ensure diverse wildlife while sustaining forests.
