Communities In Schools of the Midlands' mission is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.
Every year, nearly 700 students drop out of school in Richland and Lexington Counties, losing their path to a better future. The Student Success Project AmeriCorps Program places members in local elementary, middle and high school, where they serve as supportive, caring adults to students whose academic, social, and basic life needs are not met. There are multiple positions available to serve as a case manager. All positions are part-time; members will serve a minimum of 450 hours over the course of the school year. Schools are located in the Columbia area. Upon successful completion of term, members will receive an education award of $1527.45, which can be used for future schooling or to repay qualified student loans.
This is an excellent opportunity for individuals considering a career in social work, education, or working with youth. If you want to make a difference in a young person's life while developing professional skills, join the Communities In Schools of the Midlands AmeriCorps program!

Mission Statement
Communities In Schools of the Midlands is working to change the picture by surrounding students with a community of support empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.
Description
Communities In Schools of the Midlands (CIS of the Midlands) is a local non-profit organization that links children, families and schools with the resources needed for academic and social success. Many students face challenges to reaching their full potential. Problems such as family dysfunction, peer pressure, poverty and learning disabilities burden not only the student's ability to learn but the teachers ability to teach. These students need access to additional services such as tutors, lunch buddies, service learning projects, and after school programs. CIS of the Midlands builds the caring relationships needed to prepare students for lifelong success. CIS of the Midlands is a part of a national network of local programs. Communities In Schools National is the nation's leading community-based organization helping kids stay in school and prepare for life.
