The success of the North Carolina Azalea Festival is made possible through the hard work and dedication of community volunteers. Over 1000 volunteers plan and put on events such as the Parade, the Street Fair, the Pre-Festival Party and the community clean-up called Azalea Sweep, as well as help perform critical operations such as communications, transportation, sponsor relations and event hospitality. Volunteering can be as simple as one day commitment for an event or it has the potential for one to become a Committee Chair and even board member. All Festival volunteers are invited to attend the Volunteer Appreciation Party held each year at the close of the Festival. Guests can dance to the band, mingle with other committee volunteers, and enjoy refreshments.
For more information on volunteering please see our Volunteer Page on the website www.ncazaleafestival.org.

Mission Statement
The mission of the North Carolina Azalea Festival is to be nationally recognized as a showcase for our community’s rich array of artwork, gardens, history, and culture through recreational, educational and family-oriented events. The Festival encourages volunteerism and civic participation as it contributes to the region’s economy and promotes the unique qualities of Wilmington’s river-to-the-sea community.
Description
The North Carolina Azalea Festival is Wilmington’s annual community celebration and the largest festival of its kind in the state. Founded in 1948, the Azalea Festival has emerged as Wilmington’s premier event. Each April, a full week of natural beauty, big-name entertainment, festive galas, fun family events and Southern hospitality come together to showcase the charms of the Wilmington area. The Festival’s concerts, fairs and special events such as the Parade are viewed by more than one million people each year, The Southeast Tourism Society often selects the North Carolina Azalea Festival as one of its Top 20 Events. All of the festival's events are planned and executed by committees of volunteers. Come join us!
