SHIP (State Health Insurance Program), known in PA as APPRISE, is a very intensive volunteer opportunity for the right person who loves to learn a complicated subject then make it easier for others to understand. Medicare is a very difficult program that needs a lot of time to understand and navigate. Our APPRISE counselors receive on-going training to help others save money, get the most out of their benefits and educate beneficiaries so they can make the best choice possible for their individual situation. This is an extremely satisfying volunteer opportunity but it does require a lot of training and dedication.
The next three day trainings will begin in August. We would like to get a dozen new volunteers so we can be ready for the next Annual Open Enrollment period which begins October 15. RSVP enriches the lives of those residents who want to remain active through community service to others. The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) OF MONROE COUNTY, PA provides opportunities for Senior residents 55 and over to make a difference in their community through volunteer service. RSVP volunteers contribute anywhere from a few to over forty hours a week, serving through schools, day care centers, police departments, hospitals and other nonprofit and public organizations to help meet critical community needs. RSVP offers maximum flexibility and choice to its volunteers. RSVP matches the personal interests and skills of older Americans with opportunities to help solve community problems and offers supplemental insurance while on duty, and on-the-job training from the agency or organization where volunteers are placed.
