The 2018 hurricane season has been extraordinarily active in parts of the U.S., with Hurricane Florence currently impacting millions in the Carolinas. As this natural disaster unfolds, the staff here at VolunteerMatch is doing its part to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you are prepared and safe. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know about the most effective ways to contribute.
A local food bank, serving more than 300 families a week, is looking for people to drive the food bank vans picking up food on week day mornings. You must have a good driving record and a current drivers license.
There is some physical activity and you need to be able to lift, carry, bend, stoop and move items weighing up to 30 lbs. You would be responsible for loading and unloading the van.
The vans range from 16 to 24 feet, You DO NOT need a commercial drivers license and insurance is covered through the food bank. Schedules for driving will be made based on your availability.
This is not the address of the agency needing help. If you decide to get involved RSVP will furnish that information.
