Interfaith Outreach's Youth Summer Camp provides a free 8-week, 4-day/week, afternoon summer camp for youth (grades K-6) living in affordable housing neighborhoods in west Hennepin County. The goal of camp is to link children with recreation, learning and skill-building activities in a safe and structured environment.

Volunteers will assist counselors with general camp activities, help maintain safe and fun camp environment, and serve as a positive role model for campers.

Volunteers of diverse backgrounds are encouraged to sign up!

Schedule/Commitment: 11:30 am-4:30 pm or 10:45 am-4 pm (depends on which site you volunteer with). One or more afternoons per week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday)

Qualifications:

  • Enjoy working with kids.
  • Ability to work independently as well as an active participant within a team.
  • Commitment to sharing skills and knowledge.
  • Ability to work effectively with youth and adults from diverse cultural backgrounds and income levels.
  • Flexibility and a sense of humor.
  • Must be in at least 9 th grade.
  • If 18 or older, must pass background check.

Volunteer Responsibilities

  • Assist counselors in implementing and supervising daily camp activities.
  • Provide general support and positive role modeling.
  • Report to camp on time and be engaged throughout the duration of camp.
  • May attend camp planning meetings after the Summer Leaders leave for the day.
  • Volunteer on a consistent preplanned schedule.

Interfaith Outreach & Community Partner's is a community-based human service organization serving families and individuals who live in eight west Hennepin County suburbs. Our vision is to create a vibrant community where all are welcome and everyone counts, where all children are cherished and protected, and where family life is valued and supported by all. We provide help in the areas of food, family support, housing and neighboroods, education and youth, employment, and transportation.

Summer youth camps provide the safe places for school age children where they can explore and grow when they are not in school. Our eight-week summer camp is available to youth grades K-6 who live at nine affordable housing apartment communities. The camp is available at absolutely no cost to their families.

Kid campers enjoy social, recreational, learning and skill building activities in a safe and fun environment.

*Volunteer must 15 years of age or older.

*Volunteers must pass a background check
