Massage Therapist Volunteers
Hospice of the Chesapeake is in need of licensed massage therapists to provide care and comfort to our patients who are living with and affected by advanced illness.
Hospice of the Chesapeake is a fully licensed, community-based non-profit organization. We provide services to terminally ill patients at the place that they call home - regardless of their age or ability to pay. In order to provide the best possible service to our patients and their families, Hospice of the Chesapeake depends on the generous support provided by our amazing volunteers, our community, key business partners, and philanthropic operations.
What does a Massage Therapist Volunteer Do?
There is incredible power in the human touch, and your expertise can provide profound relief of physical and emotional discomfort for patients and/or their caregivers. These therapeutic massages help naturally relieve pain and improve patient's emotional state by releasing oxytocin in the brain, and also help facilitate restful sleep.
Massage is an important part of end-of-life care. Often insurance does not cover employment of licensed massage therapists any longer, but the need exists more than ever.
There's no better feeling than knowing that you have helped ease what can be a difficult time for patients and their families.
Where Will I Volunteer?
We offer inpatient care, as well as outpatient care throughout Prince George's county. We will work with you to find the most convenient locations for you, and work around your schedule.
Benefits of Volunteering for HoC:
- Opportunity for a variety of certifications, which can be used professionally
- Scholarships available for certain Healing Arts certifications
- Possible tax deductions
