LEAP Volunteers in Haiti
Medical Volunteers working in Haiti, serving the children.

Our organization serves children with surgical needs by sending medical teams to seven countries and also responds to international disasters through providing medical volunteers and/or supplies. We are in need of individuals who would like to support our work as local volunteers in our office or warehouse. Possible duties include administrative tasks related to preparing for trips, tasks related to organizing patient data, helping to sort and record in-kind donations (medical supplies and equipment), or assisting with organization of items in our medical warehouse. While the number of hours you can volunteer is flexible, they would need to be on weekdays between 9am and 5:30pm. We do not have weekend hours available.

Our adminstrative tasks would take place primarily at our office in Medical City Dallas, and our warehouse tasks are at a different location, off of 35 near Inwood.

Mission Statement

LEAP Global Missions is dedicated to enhancing and enriching the lives of people around the world by providing specialized medical and surgical services inspired by the love of Christ.

Description

LEAP is a global nonprofit that offers free, life-changing surgical care where there is a lack of access to specialized medical care. We return to the same communities each year, which has enabled us to develop strong partnerships and trusting relations with those we serve. Our current outreach is Belize, Haiti, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, India, Zimbabwe, and Jordan.

Through the generosity of a single donor family, the Landmark Program makes it possible for children with the most complex surgical needs to travel to the United States for help. As many require multiple surgeries that are too complicated to be performed in their own countries, they are able to stay for extended periods of time, if necessary. Frequently, these children are born with such severe craniofacial deformities they were abandoned as infants and live in orphanages. Other children have families that travel with them during their surgical care, often leaving their homes for the first time in their lives.

Through our collaboration with the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) to create Surgical Relief Teams (c), a global resource for international surgical teams to respond quickly to worldwide disasters with much-needed surgical interventions that can save life and limb. Currently, we are sending surgical teams to Amman, Jordan to provide much needed surgical care to the Syrian refugees who have suffered from war-related injuries - approximately half of our surgical patients are children.
