PAL’s Mentoring Program creates a space where youth (grades K-7) and community members can build a caring relationship that provides friendship and support. The goal is simple: To help young people discover their strengths, build their self-esteem, and achieve their potential.
Mentoring guarantees a young person that there is someone who cares about them and takes an interest in their day-to-day life. Studies have shown that youth who are mentored are:
¨ 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs
¨ 27% less likely to begin using alcohol
¨ 52% less likely to skip school
¨ More confident in their performance at school
¨ Better able to get along with their families
