Kingdom House became a Children's Defense Fund Freedom Schools Program partner sponsor in 2016. Founded in 1995, the Freedom Schools Program seeks to build strong, literate and empowered children prepared to make a difference in themselves, their families, communities, nation and world today. By providing summer reading enrichment for children who might not otherwise have access to books, the program plays a much needed role in helping to curb summer learning loss and close achievement gaps.
Volunteers are invited to breakfast and to participate in Harambee. Harambee means "Let's pull together", it is an up-lifting time filled with singing and chanting to get youth scholars excited for their day. Volunteers will choose a book that is meaningful to them, they will read aloud to youth and answer questions about the importance of literacy in their life.
Summer Camp Harambee will be held June 19-July 28, Monday-Friday, 9-9:30am. This is the perfect opportunity to start your morning off a great and impactful way!

Mission Statement
Our mission is to help individuals and families achieve economic well-being by providing high-impact, relationship-based programming and by addressing systemic barriers to their success.
Description
Our vision is that all people in the St. Louis region have access to the opportunities and support that allow them to achieve economic well-being. LifeWise StL supports the vision by increasing its thought leadership, building presence through program growth and expanding influence in the community.
Our story began in 1902 when LifeWise StL was founded as a settlement house. Middle class men and women provided education and resources to help the growing immigrant population of St. Louis. They created a place of hope, refuge, learning and connection. These ideals have endured even as the community around us has changed and life situations are more challenging.
Our organization has experienced its own metamorphosis as it adapted to meet the needs of our participants. We have moved away from crisis services toward holistic transformations. Today, we have a model that is based on educational programming fused with personalized and supportive coaching.
