The Center for Amazon Community Ecology is a non-profit organization that helps native artisans from the Peruvian Amazon to develop and market innovative fair trade handicrafts to create a sustainable livelihood. We also return 20% of our net craft sales to support health, education and conservation needs in their communities.

We have a great opportunity to sell a wide range of these fair-trade and sustainable crafts at the Green Festival Expo in Washington, D.C. from June 5 - 7.

We need enthusiastic volunteers to help setting up our booth the day before the festival on Thursday afternoon (June 4), help sell crafts during the 3 days of the festival and pack up our crafts and display at the end of the festival on Sunday. Volunteers could help with one or more of these tasks immediately before and during the expo. Volunteers will get a free pass to enter the expo during the days of the festival. See details below.

1) Help set up the booth and crafts at the CACE site at the festival on Thursday, June 4. 2 pm to 6 pm.

2) Help sell crafts to people attending the festival on Friday, June 5. 12 noon - 6 pm (minimum 3 hour shift)

3) Help sell crafts to people attending the festival on Saturday, June 6. 10 am - 6 pm (minimum 3 hour shift)

4) Help sell crafts to people attending the festival on Sunday, June 7. 10 am - 5 pm (minimum 3 hour shift)

Mission Statement

The mission of the Center for Amazon Community Ecology is to promote the understanding, conservation and sustainable development of human and other biological communities in the Amazon region. Our three strategies are research, community support and education. One of our main goals is to study the ecology and develop the sustainable harvest and marketing of non-timber forest products such as fruits, fibers, resins, and oils. We also work with indigenous and other forest peoples to sustain local resources and support their communities.

Description

The main strategies for achieving our goals are research, community support, and education. This will include investigating the ecology and sustainable harvest of non-timber forest products (like resins, fruits and fibers) and assisting indigenous and other forest-based communities to manage and market them to support local development and conservation. This will require reaching out to and connecting many people and communities in the Amazon and abroad. CACE is a member of the Fair Trade Federation.
