Veteran Recognition and Companion Visits
32 people are interested
About 25 percent of those who die every year in the United States are armed services veterans, but many still do not know what services are available to them at the end of life. To help ensure every veteran in our community gets the care they deserve, Hosparus Health is a Level Four partner in We Honor Veterans, a national program that allows us to give our staff and volunteers the resources and training they need to provide specialized veteran care.
As part of our commitment to veterans, we offer a recognition visit to our patients who have served. A volunteer, who is also a military veteran, makes a one time visit to the patient with a special certificate of appreciation and either a patriotic pin or handmade quilt or afghan care blanket. We also get requests for ongoing veteran to veteran companion visits. After you've made the recognition visit, you may have the opportunity for regularly scheduled visits with a veteran. The primary role of a companionship volunteer is to provide presence and support.
We will work with your schedule and you can choose to serve in your neighborhood, or anywhere in Louisville and the surrounding counties we serve.
The first step to becoming a volunteer is completing the volunteer application.
Please visit: hosparushealth.org and click on the volunteer tab.
On our website, you'll find more information about being a volunteer, including the requirements.
Once you've submitted a volunteer application, you'll have the option to register for training. We'll confirm attendance with you after you have signed up.
