Quail Habitat Restoration Volunteers

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Golden Gate Bird Alliance (formerly Golden Gate Audubon Society)

Golden Gate Audubon is looking for volunteers to help restore quail habitat at the Harding Park golf course and The Presidio. These are monthly restoration work days that occur the second and fourth Saturdays of each month from 9 am to 12 pm. Work occurs at The Presidio the 2nd Saturday of every month. Work occurs at Harding Park the 4th Saturday of every month. Restoration work consists of some combination of weeding and planting. Refreshments, gloves and tools will be provided at both locations. We will be working rain or shine (unless it's heavy rain). Please join us for another satisfying morning helping to bring the California Quail back to San Francisco. We look forward to seeing you there! No prior registration is required - all you have to do is show up on the 26th! If you have any questions, please give us a call (510.843.2222) or email us at volunteer@goldengateaudubon.org. Co-sponsored by The Presidio Trust, San Francisco Recreation and Park Department, and the National Park Service. Directions to the Harding Park restoration site: These directions start from Lincoln Way which runs along Golden Gate Park on its southern border. Take Lincoln Way to Sunset Blvd and turn left. Take Sunset to its end where it converges with Lake Merced Blvd. Across the intersection is your destination, the parking lot at the convergence of Lake Merced Blvd and Sunset Blvd. Once in the parking lot look over the bluff at the edge of the lot to find the bridge across the lake that will take you to the restoration area. To Lincoln Way from the East Bay To get to Lincoln Way take the Bay Bridge and get off at the Ninth St exit. Stay in the right lane of the exit which takes you onto Harrison St. Take Harrison to the first stop light and make a right turn on Ninth St. Stay in either of the left two lanes and immediately after you cross Market St go left onto Hayes St (there are clear signs taking you there). Stay on Hayes until you reach Gough where you will turn. Take Gough to Fell St and turn right. Fell takes you to Golden Gate Park. When you enter the park stay in the left lanes. These curve around and turn into Lincoln Way. Take Lincoln Way to Sunset (the street following 36th Avenue.) Coming from North of Harding Park/Lake Merced Drive South on 19th Ave South toward Sloat Blvd, turn right onto Winston Dr, take a slight right onto Lake Merced Blvd. Lake Merced Blvd will curve around until it meets Sunset Blvd where you will turn left into the parking lot at the convergence of Lake Merced Blvd and Sunset Blvd. Take the bridge across the lake to the restoration area. MUNI and BART directions coming from Market St. Take the M line to Saint Francis Circle. Walk to N.W. Corner Of Sloat Blvd & West Portal Ave. Take Bus #23/San Francisco Zoo at 8:49 AM to Sloat Blvd & 36th Ave. Walk down Sunset Blvd to the parking lot at the convergence of Lake Merced Blvd and Sunset Blvd. Take the bridge across the lake to the restoration area.
