Volunteer Job Description

ONLINE ADVOCATE

15 minutes per day minimum

1 year minimum commitment


MAJOR OBJECTIVE

The volunteer online community advocate will work within social media sites and our website to promote MOCEANS and our mission by actively engaging community members and sharing news, information, and resources related to the Center.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Effective social media writing which includes summary, evaluation and analysis

  • Experience and/or interest in promoting the human and civil rights of people with disabilities

  • Have one or more personal social media accounts that is used regularly

  • Have access to the internet daily

  • Intermediate to advanced skills using one or more social media channels to interact with others online


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be a positive and informed spokesperson for all people with disabilities

  • Become part of online communities, share information, and expand networks

  • Closely monitor MOCEANS’ social media and website activity, promptly sharing any updates on multiple social media channels

  • Share your point of view in a way that is open, positive, and enthusiastic

  • Consistently promote MOCEANS CIL and its mission serving as a champion of our cause


ORIENTATION/TRAINING

MOCEANS will provide both online and in-person training. Orientation will occur on the first day of volunteer hours and will last approximately one hour. On-going training and support will be provided as needed.


TIME AND PLACE

The volunteer online advocate will work no less than 15 minutes daily. This is a virtual position with a flexible schedule.


COMMITMENT

This position requires a minimum commitment of 1 year and offers a flexible schedule.

Volunteers are highly valued members of the MOCEANS team and contribute to making a significant difference in MOCEANS’ ability to serve our community. MOCEANS will provide reference letters for all volunteers who successfully complete a placement
