Welcome to the Butterfly Garden!
Our garden is used as a teaching tool in a number of programs and lessons. We can always use help in its growth and development.

***SUMMER 2018 PROGRAM NOW FULL - CHECK BACK AFTER SUMMER***

Volunteers needed to care for, maintain and develop the Children's Science Explorium's Butterfly Garden. The Butterfly Gardians assist with watering, mulching, planting, weeding and propagation of Florida native flowering plants. Volunteers assist with the identification and recording of plants and animals found in the gardens. Special care is required not to harm the insects and 'pests' found in the garden. Previous experience working with plants is preferred, but not required.

Shifts are highly flexible, though recommended for the early morning. Breaks are provided as needed. Special requests and accommodations can be made with advanced notification.

This position offers the volunteer opportunities to learn about botany, etymology, ecological sciences and horticulture.

This position is open to anyone over the age of 14, requires a minimum commitment of 30 hours of service.

The Children's Science Explorium strives to inspire an appreciation and understanding of science by providing an environment and various programs that stimulate a child's natural curiosity.

Description

The Children's Science Explorium is a hands-on science center designed for children ages 5 - 12. Volunteers maintain exhibits, present demonstrations to the audience, represent the facility at special events, and/or assist with summer science camp.

Volunteer opportunities exist year-round. All exhibits and teachings focus on physical sciences for elementary ages.

Year-round volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of 30 hours of service over any period of time.

Summer camp counselors are required to sign up for a minimum of 2 weeks of camp from 8:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. weekdays.
