For nearly two decades, Capital Caring has sought to embrace grieving children, teens and adults by offering loving support at local Point of Hope Camps held annually across the MD, VA and the D.C. metropolitan region. These Camps, most of which are one-day long, offer grieving individuals the opportunity to connect with others who have also suffered a loss in safe, therapeutic environments. Thanks to generous donors, sponsors and friends of Capital Caring, costs for each participant are fully covered. Campers do not need to worry about how they will afford to pay for this bereavement support.
Camp activities are also designed to be age appropriate. The camps are staffed by Capital Caring employees, including experienced grief counselors, as well as art and music therapists, and trained volunteers. Participants enjoy camp experiences such as:
- Healing Circles/Counseling Support
- Art therapy and craft making
- Pet therapy
- Massage therapy
- Puppet therapy (for children)
- Yoga and meditation
- Dramatic expression
- Special rituals to help memorialize lost loved ones
- Sports such as volleyball, basketball, and Frisbee
- Traditional camping activities such as hiking, swimming, camp fires, scavenger hunts, and song
Volunteers will be used in the capicity of:
- Big Buddy - a volunteer who is paired with a child for the day
- Support Volunteer - someone who gives blocks of time during the day and prior to the start of camp to help set up various activities and keep the program running smoothly
- Junior Volunteer - a sixteen or seventeen-year-old who plays a supportive role in assigned activities
The camp will be held at Watkins Park Nature Center 301 Watkins Park Drive, Upper Marlboro, MD 20774

Mission Statement
Provide Patients and Their Families with Advanced Illness Care of the Highest Quality.
Description
Capital Caring Health would truthfully not exist without our volunteers. In 1977, this organization was founded by a group of dedicated volunteers, deeply committed to making a profound impact in our community. Capital Caring Health provides hospice, palliative and advanced illness care of the highest quality to patients of all ages, regardless of their ability to pay. We serve pediatrics to geriatrics. We have two in patient centers and serve most patients in the comfort of their home. Volunteers are key to the service we provide. We train our volunteers and support them along the way. They are part of our team.
