Lyman Woods is a nature center and forest preserve that is part of the Downers Grove Park District.
Over the summer, Lyman Woods is host to a variety of nature-themed day camps for campers ages 4-14. Lyman Woods Summer Camp Volunteers gain valuable experience working with children in an adventurous outdoor setting while meeting and working with other volunteers. Volunteers may assist with crafts and games, story time and cleanup, or being a buddy to shy campers.
Lyman Woods will also offer a youth camp at Gilbert Park/Maple Grove Forest Preserve, which some volunteers could also help at.
We offer morning (9am-12pm), afternoon (1pm-4pm), or full-day (9am-4pm) camps. Volunteers can stay the entire day (bring a lunch!) or they can choose mornings or afternoons only. We prefer volunteers that are available for two or more days in a week of camp and at least 2 different weeks of camp. Morning (9am-12pm), Afternoon (1pm-4pm) or Full Day (9am-4pm) shifts available.
Volunteers should be able to arrive about 15 minutes before the start of the camp day, and stay about 15 minutes after camp.
Volunteers must be at least 14 years old, and able to attend a volunteer training session in late May.
In 2024 we have 11 weeks of Summer Camp running from Mon. June 3 to Fri. August 14th.
