Stand Against Stigma

The Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) Volunteer Program provides an opportunity for individuals to enrich their lives and the lives of others while receiving hands-on training, education and orientation into the public mental health field. Participants may choose to volunteer occasionally at community events and/or on a more regular basis at the community mental health building.

We also have a comprehensive training program is available to eligible individuals interested in becoming peer mentors and/or developing skills necessary for entry-level positions in to the public mental health field. This program, The MHSA Academy is 65-hours long and applications to the program are taken on an on-going basis.

Description

Since early 2013, the MHSA Volunteer Program has been providing individuals a chance to give back to their community while gaining valuable work experience. The Volunteer Program provides an opportunity for people to enrich their lives and the lives of others by serving as a living example of wellness, resiliency, and recovery.

Participation in the MHSA Volunteer Program is designed to also provide knowledge of the public mental health system and to help build employment skills. MHSA Volunteers will also have access to hands-on training programs that provide the skills and education necessary to meet the qualifications listed for entry-level public mental health employment. Participants may choose to volunteer occasionally at community events and/or on a more regular basis.
