While our Shelter Client Advocates (SCA) are working with clients, we are seeking volunteers that would like to assist with other duties around the building during our busy times in the morning, 8-10am, and evening, 6-8pm. Volunteer Assistants help with anything in the building including: filling in at the front desk, monitoring the lobby, accepting and putting donations away throughout the building, retrieving needed items for clients like shampoo, fans, or linens, daily check ins for the waiting list, assisting clients around the shelter, and light cleaning and organizing. This is a great volunteer opportunity for anyone who likes interacting with clients, but also enjoys project and time management.
Volunteer Assistants play a vital role in the agency by directly assisting Shelter Client Advocates.
For more information on becoming a volunteer please visit Homeless Connections website or contact Samantha Uitenbroek, samantha@homelessconnections.net.

About Homeless Connections
Location:
400 N. Division Street, APPLETON, WI 54911, US
Mission Statement
Ending homelessness by connecting individuals and families to resources that promote self-sufficiency and prevent future homeless episodes.
Description
Volunteers started the organization to provide shelter to people experiencing homelessness in the community by providing motel vouchers. A growing need for shelter led to the lease of a home in 1983 and then the purchase of a home in 1986. This home was later expanded to 25 beds in 1995. A case manager was also hired in 1995 to connect residents to community resources. A second case manager was hired and a 78-bed shelter was constructed in 1997, which is where Homeless Connections is housed today.
The mission of the organization expanded in 2002 when a Prevention Program was added to help prevent individuals and families at imminent risk of homelessness remain in their community housing. The Prevention Program was combined with LEAVEN’s program in 2008.
A Street Outreach Program was added in 2005 to meet the growing needs of those with chronic mental illnesses and substance abuse disorders residing in areas unfit for human habitation in the community.
