Howard County Historical Society in Maryland is in need of volunteers to perform research activities related to Howard County history and genealogy. Using our archives and resources (books, photos, maps, documents, collections, web sites, databases, etc.) researchers investigate a wide variety of topics. We assist the general public with their research requests and also answer online or email requests related to Howard County history. Additionally, we have a large variety of other research projects: writing articles for newsletters, assisting historians with creating storyboards for museum displays, traditional museum docent roles, developing historical educational materials for youth groups, assisting with data entry projects, etc. Research experience would be beneficial. If not, we will train and mentor you!
COVID Update: Our offices (Miller Library) are currently closed due to the pandemic. However, we have work from home opportunities for: an experienced researcher, a person with experience in archival and collections functions, a journalist interested in writing articles about history or a person with experience in inventory management (books, gift shop, etc.) Our museum is currently open to the public and follows CDC guidelines: required masks, 6 ft distancing, etc. Hours are Fri, Sat & Sun 1pm- 5pm.
