Summary of Position

The Business Development Associate will serve by providing support with research, clerical and general administrative duties for the Business Relations department of the Pikes Peak Workforce Center (PPWFC). The objective of this role is to provide business development assistance to the Business Relations Group in a research, administrative and general support capacity. The Business Development Associate duties will contribute to the overall success of the BRG, allowing the group to serve more businesses in El Paso and Teller counties by connecting the to job-seekers and enabling a greater positive economic impact within the Pikes Peak Region.

Essential Duties

  • Perform essential office clerical duties such as printing/copying, collating materials for community outreach, typing/drafting documents, filing, shredding, organizing and running errands within the facility
  • Identify and research companies within targeted industries such as IT, manufacturing, healthcare, hospitality, tourism, and retail, to assist with establishing a corporate database of regional businesses
  • Assist with processing and entering Job Orders in Connecting Colorado and Schedule hiring events through Microsoft Outlook software Use BRG calendar to store employer contact information for Business Team members to access
  • Provide Connecting Colorado data entry support (creating accounts and logging business related services) in Connecting Colorado to include Hiring Events, Rapid Response including company services and employees affected allowing adherence to state and program compliance
  • Research newly approved accounts and create summary for Business Specialists follow-up
  • Assist with job fair preparation, participation, and follow up as needed
  • "Smile and Dial" - Conduct phone calls to businesses for a variety of reasons; i.e. to confirm attendance at an upcoming job fair
  • Follow up with employers and assist employers on clarifying/improving job descriptions (wages, hours, job description) to make sure it is in accordance with PGL/PPL
  • Follow up with employers to obtain number of people hired from events to include: job fairs, customized hiring events, and Rapid Response events
  • Assist with PPWFC Customized Hiring Events; including greeting & guiding employers and/or job seekers
  • Assemble Workforce Needs Analysis folders and Rapid Response folders as needed
  • Adhere to the PPWFC customer service standards at all times
  • Understand and adhere to all PPWFC and Business Relations Group programmatic and agency policies and procedures
  • Work closely with PPWFC staff
  • Complete required tracking of volunteer hours, tasks completed, etc., as appropriate for position
  • Participate in volunteer evaluations to improve mutual satisfaction and the volunteer program itself
  • Attend meetings, trainings and events as requested and when possible
  • Perform other administrative duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old and possess a High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience in office administration and/or sales/customer service highly preferred
  • Proficient with standard office equipment such as computer, multi-line telephone, fax machine, copier, scanner, etc. Highly proficient with Microsoft Office software: Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
  • The ability and willingness to learn and adapt to change
  • Commitment to provide excellent customer service
  • Comfortable working directly with a variety of employers
  • A high degree of professionalism and a friendly, positive attitude

Term of Service

The volunteer must commit to a minimum of 6 months of service, at least 9 hours per month in shifts of no less than 3 hours. Shifts are flexible, but must be within the hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Training/Support Provided

  • Orientation to PPWFC and volunteer program will be provided and is mandatory before starting volunteer service.
  • Position-specific training/support will be provided by PPWFC and is mandatory before starting volunteer service.
  • Ongoing support from Operations Manager and department staff.

Reports to: Operations Manager or Designee

Work Conditions: Work is performed in an office environment.

Selection, Training and Development Process

  1. Complete a PPWFC Volunteer Inquiry online at www.ppwfc.org
  2. Interview with the Operations Manager
  3. Pass a background and reference check
  4. Complete all necessary volunteer paperwork
  5. Sign a written volunteer agreement to commit to a minimum of 6-months of service
  6. Attend mandatory orientation (provided by PPWFC)
  7. Complete mandatory position specific training
